September 14, Navy vs Memphis Football Watch Party–@ Peanut 127th & Metcalf in Overland Park

Posted: 9/12/2023
Navy Memphis Football Watch Party at the Peanut Bar and Grille at 12663 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. 66213. The game is being played in Memphis and Navy is a two touchdown underdog, but our defense is improving and watch out for speedy Braxton Woodson a plebe at QB getting playing time.
Arrive at around 6:00 PM Central this Thursday, September 14, and the games starts on ESPN at 6:30 PM. Order food and drink off the Peanut’s main menu individually. I have a reservation for us in the back room that seats about 20-25.
The Peanut is rated 4 stars by Yelp and is nicer than Fox & Hound my  view, and the food is better. It is in a strip shopping center near 127th and Metcalf.
If enough people show up we could do raffle prizes or if not wait until the Air Force game coming up.
I will send out another email to the whole Greater KC Metro Chapter on Tuesday, September 12. Please forward this invite out to others.
Go Navy, Beat Memphis!

The uniform of the day is: Anything Navy or Marine Corps

Navy has at least 5 QBs this season so the real intrigue will be who will start and how many of them will play against Notre Dame and down the road. Navy’s defense will be good again this season with good depth.

The web page is https://navysports.com

Five QBs are:

  1. Blake Horvath #11 (3/C) majoring in Operations Research with a 3.44 GPA
  2. Tai Lavatai #1 (1/C) last year’s starter until a ACL knee injury in the Temple game, started 18 games for Navy, missed Spring Football, majoring in Mathematics with Economics
  3. Xavier Arline #7 (1/C) has played in 21 games and started 9, majoring in General Science, also a top Navy lacrosse player
  4. Teddy Gleaton #10 (3/C) was the Navy first team QB in Spring Football, but in summer school classes so he has missed some football practices in August, majoring in English.

April 23, 2023 (Sunday) Dinner with Warriors for Service Academy Prospects

Posted: 4/15/2023

Two prospective Naval Academy Midshipmen get a photo op with retired Navy pilot Captain Jim Coopersmith, USNA Class of ’62, at a prior year Army-Navy Football Game Watch Party. Both young men graduated from USNA this past May 2022. Dinner with Warriors formalizes this contact with retired career officers in the area.

What:  23 Apr (Sunday):Dinner with Warriors:  This event is for only potential candidates for any of our military academies: Navy Academy, West Point, Air Force Academy, and Coast Guard Academy But we need your help in advertising it. Retired officers from each of the services will be there discussing their military careers and will be able to answer questions of what midshipmen and cadets can expect in terms of challenges and career experiences in today’s United States armed forces.

Location: Hallbrook Country Club, 11200 Overbrook Rd., Leawood, KS 66211

Details: The deadline for registration is this weekend April 15-16; thus this is an urgent call as we still have available reservations. If you know a 9th, 10th or 11th grader whose academics and other qualities qualifies them for an appointment, by all means give them the attached invitation ASAP and urge them to come with a parent to this dinner. We currently have 13 academy grads who will be discussing their academy and military experiences. The US Marine Corps will be there too. This event is rare but it is a great incentive for kids to apply to our academies, any of them. Applications are seriously down this year so we all have a duty to ensure we have great candidates to fill our future ranks of the Armed Services. It only takes two minutes to give a student a call (or their parents) that may change their life. Call your friends and see if their high school students might go. Again, the deadline is this weekend.  (See the registration link below)  Thanks to retired Air Force pilot, LTCOL Greg Shuey, USAFA ’68, for organization of this annual dinner in April each year. He serves as the President of the local Kansas City Air Force Academy Association of Graduates.

Link and Deadline:  Reservations: By KC Air Force Association of Graduates (AOG) Website at https://cvent.me/40Rx3O.  Registration Deadline is 16 April 2023.
